Diagnostic Assessments

All assessments are conducted using standardised, validated psychometric instruments by AHPRA-registered psychologists. Findings are documented in comprehensive written reports prepared to clinical and funding body standards.

Child & Adolescent Assessments

For children and young people up to age 18

ADHD Assessment (Child and Adolescent)
Conners 3rd Edition (Conners-3)BRIEF-2WISC-V (where indicated)

A comprehensive evaluation of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents incorporates information from multiple sources, including standardised parent and teacher rating scales, cognitive testing, and a structured clinical interview. Assessment instruments may include the Conners 3rd Edition (Conners-3) and the Behaviour Rating Inventory of Executive Function, Second Edition (BRIEF-2). Where indicated, a standardised cognitive battery such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V) is included to assess for co-occurring cognitive differences.

Report use:

Reports are suitable for school support planning, paediatrician review, and NDIS eligibility assessment.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessment (Child and Adolescent)
ADOS-2ADI-R / DIVA (caregiver interview)SCQ

ASD assessments follow best-practice clinical protocols consistent with current diagnostic guidelines (DSM-5-TR). Evaluation incorporates direct observational assessment using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), along with a structured caregiver interview (such as the ADI-R) and standardised rating scales. A clinical interview with the caregiver and, where appropriate, the young person is also conducted. Assessment findings are documented in a comprehensive report.

Report use:

Reports are suitable for diagnosis confirmation, school adjustment support, NDIS access requests, and specialist referral.

Specific Learning Disorders: Dyslexia and Related Conditions
WISC-VWIAT-IIICTOPP-2

Assessments for specific learning disorders, including Dyslexia (affecting reading), Dysgraphia (affecting written expression), and Dyscalculia (affecting mathematics), use a psychoeducational testing battery. Instruments typically include the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V) to assess cognitive ability and the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Third Edition (WIAT-III) to measure academic achievement. Phonological processing may be assessed using the Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing, Second Edition (CTOPP-2).

Report use:

Reports document cognitive and achievement profiles and include evidence-based recommendations suitable for school-based adjustments and support planning.

Cognitive Functioning Assessment
WISC-VWPPSI-IV (preschool)Supporting measures

A cognitive functioning assessment provides an objective evaluation of a child's intellectual abilities across domains including verbal comprehension, visual-spatial reasoning, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V) is used for school-age children; the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV) is used for younger children. These assessments provide a detailed cognitive profile.

Report use:

Reports are suitable for school placement decisions, gifted and talented identification, and clinical referral.

Adult Assessments

For individuals aged 18 and over

ADHD Assessment (Adult)
CAARS-2DIVA-5WAIS-IV (where indicated)

Adult ADHD assessment involves a thorough clinical interview, review of developmental history, and standardised psychometric measures. Instruments typically include the Conners' Adult ADHD Rating Scales, Second Edition (CAARS-2) and the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults (DIVA-5). Where indicated, cognitive testing using the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV) is incorporated to assess for co-occurring cognitive profiles.

Report use:

Reports support psychiatric review, workplace accommodations, and NDIS eligibility.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessment (Adult)
ADOS-2 (Module 4)ADI-R / DIVA (caregiver/self-report)Supporting measures

Adult ASD assessment follows an evidence-based protocol incorporating direct observational assessment, a structured developmental history interview, and standardised self-report and caregiver-report measures. The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) Module 4 is used for adults. Assessment addresses current functional presentation, co-occurring conditions, and the impact of any identified differences on daily life.

Report use:

Reports support diagnostic clarification, NDIS access requests, and specialist referral.

Complex Mental Health Presentations
WAIS-IVMMPI-3 / PAI (where indicated)Structured clinical interview

Assessments for complex mental health presentations provide a diagnostic formulation based on standardised psychometric instruments and a structured clinical interview. The WAIS-IV may be incorporated to assess cognitive functioning. Additional personality or psychopathology measures may be used where clinically indicated. These assessments are typically conducted following specialist or GP referral.

Report use:

Reports provide a documented diagnostic formulation and evidence-based recommendations for treating clinicians.

Funding Body Assessments

NDIS, WorkCover Queensland, and Department of Veterans' Affairs

NDIS
NDIS Functional Capacity Assessment

A functional capacity assessment evaluates how a psychological condition affects a person's ability to undertake activities of daily living. These assessments are used to support access requests and NDIS planning meetings. The assessment documents functional limitations across relevant support categories including daily activities, social and community participation, and capacity for employment. Reports are prepared to meet NDIS documentation requirements.

NDIS
Evidence of Psychosocial Disability

An Evidence of Psychosocial Disability report supports an initial NDIS access application where the primary disability arises from a mental health condition. The report documents the nature and diagnosis of the condition, its functional impact, and evidence of likely permanency, addressing the NDIA's access criteria. This report is privately funded, as it is required prior to the participant holding an NDIS plan.

WorkCover QLD
WorkCover Queensland Assessment

Initial psychological assessments and comprehensive reports under WorkCover Queensland scheme rules. The assessment documents the nature and extent of psychological impairment arising from a workplace injury, identifies barriers to recovery and return to work, and provides evidence-based recommendations. Reports comply with WorkCover Queensland standards and are billed at the applicable schedule fee.

DVA
Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) Assessment

Psychological assessments for the Department of Veterans' Affairs provide diagnostic and functional evaluations for eligible veterans (DVA Gold or White Card holders). Assessments are conducted in accordance with DVA requirements and may include evaluations relevant to mental health conditions arising from or related to service.

Cognitive & Aged Care Assessments

Objective cognitive evaluation for older adults and those with concerns about cognitive change

Standardised neuropsychological and cognitive assessments evaluate multiple cognitive domains, including:

  • Memory (immediate and delayed recall)
  • Attention and concentration
  • Executive function and problem-solving
  • Language and verbal abilities
  • Visuospatial and perceptual processing
  • Processing speed

These assessments are used to establish a cognitive baseline, identify patterns consistent with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia syndromes, and inform care planning. Results are documented in a comprehensive written report suitable for GP, geriatrician, and neurologist review.

Important Information

A cognitive assessment provides objective psychometric data about cognitive functioning at the time of testing. It is one component of a broader diagnostic process and does not constitute a standalone medical diagnosis.

Results should be interpreted alongside clinical history, neuroimaging, and other medical investigations as directed by the treating clinician.

A referral from a GP or specialist is required prior to booking a cognitive or aged care assessment.
