Telehealth Assessments

Selected psychological assessments and all feedback sessions are available via a secure video conferencing platform. Telehealth delivery allows clients across Queensland to access assessment services without requiring travel.

How Telehealth Assessments Work

Device

A computer, laptop, or tablet with a webcam and microphone. Smartphones can be used but a larger screen is recommended.

Internet Connection

A stable broadband internet connection. A wired connection is preferred over Wi-Fi to reduce interruptions.

Video Platform

Sessions are conducted via a secure, encrypted video conferencing platform. You will receive a link prior to your appointment. No downloads are required for most platforms.

Privacy

You must be in a private, quiet space where you cannot be overheard. Please ensure no other individuals are present in the room unless agreed in advance (e.g., a parent present for a child's intake).

Telehealth Suitability

Commonly suitable for telehealth

  • Adult ADHD diagnostic assessment
  • Adult Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments
  • Initial clinical intake and history taking
  • Feedback sessions (all assessment types)
  • Selected cognitive assessments (adult)
  • NDIS functional capacity assessment (interview components)
  • WorkCover and DVA assessment interviews

Usually best conducted in-person

  • Comprehensive paediatric cognitive assessment (WISC-V), which typically requires in-person administration for standardised validity
  • Preschool cognitive assessment (WPPSI-IV)
  • ADOS-2 observational assessment for young children
  • Assessments requiring physical stimulus materials that cannot be administered remotely

Telehealth suitability is assessed on an individual basis. Factors such as age, the nature of the referral question, and prior assessment history may affect whether telehealth delivery is appropriate. Suitability will be confirmed during the intake process. Where telehealth is not appropriate, in-person attendance at our Burleigh Heads rooms will be required.

Privacy & Informed Consent for Telehealth

Telehealth assessment sessions are conducted using a secure, encrypted video conferencing platform that complies with Australian privacy legislation, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Prior to your telehealth appointment, you will be asked to provide written or electronic consent confirming that you understand the telehealth format, that you are in a private location during the session, and that you agree not to record any part of the session.

Session links are unique, single-use, and shared only with the consenting client or their authorised caregiver. Links must not be shared with third parties.

Test Publisher Licensing & Telehealth Compliance

Standardised psychometric instruments are subject to copyright and licensing conditions set by their publishers. Publishers including Pearson Clinical & Talent Assessment and Western Psychological Services (WPS) have specific telehealth policies that govern whether, and under what conditions, their instruments may be administered remotely.

This practice only delivers assessments via telehealth where the relevant test publisher's licensing terms expressly permit remote administration. Where a publisher does not authorise remote delivery, or where remote administration would compromise standardisation or the normative validity of scores, the assessment is conducted in person at our Burleigh Heads rooms.

Clients are not required to hold any licence or enter into a separate agreement with publishers. Compliance with publisher licensing conditions is managed at the practice level and is reviewed as publisher policies are updated.

This is one reason why certain instruments, including the WISC-V, WPPSI-IV, and ADOS-2, are listed under assessments that are usually best conducted in person: publisher terms and/or standardisation requirements do not currently support routine remote administration of those instruments with children.
